Polar compatible chest strap from eBay
I saw this Polar compatible chest strap on eBay. I was mainly attracted to the USD17 price because 2 years ago, I have paid 5x more for a replacement Polar Wearlink+ chest strap from Athlete Circle's in KL. I think the price for the original strap is ridiculous because it is the same as buying a new, low-end Polar FT-1 heart rate monitor.
The item arrived 12 days after I have placed the order with the Shenzhen-based seller. But it doesn't work with my Polar RS400 watch - the display simply reads '00'. Fortunately it works with my obsolete Polar S610 watch which is also in need of a replacement strap. The S610's original T31C strap does not allow battery replacement - I have previously blogged about my futile attempt to overcome Polar's ruse to force customers buy straps annually. The Chinese strap has a user accessible battery compartment which holds a CR2032 button cell.
Since the advert claims that it "Can be fit most of the POLAR products", I am writing to the seller to complain (about it not working with the RS400). I find the fussiness strange because the Polar WearLink+ strap works with both RS400 and S610 watches.
Postscript (23 June)
After my complaining on eBay, the seller refunded USD3 because it only worked with the S610. She also promised to tighten up the product description.
